Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Do I have to be a graduate of Notre Dame to join the club?
A. Absolutely not! Anyone interested in becoming a member is welcome to do so. We have many members who are parents of current or graduated students, as well as others who just love Notre Dame and what the university stands for in the community. The club organizes numerous social, spiritual and service-oriented activities throughout the year and all are welcome to join us.
Q. What are the benefits of membership?
A. We offer several benefits to our club members. Members have the opportunity to participate in an annual lottery for Notre Dame football tickets. Members also receive a quarterly newsletter about activities and news from the club. The club ticket exchange program is open to all Notre Dame fans, but members receive top priority in being matched with potential sellers.
Q. Can I pay my membership dues with a credit card?
A. At this time, we are not set up to handle credit card transactions due to the cost to the Club that is associated with them. Coming in 2007 or early 2008, this will be possible. Keep watching...
Q. How can I get a Notre Dame Alumni vanity plate?
A. The newly redesigned Notre Dame Pennsylvania license plate is now available. The new plate design features the University commercial seal in blue and gold. The specialty plate fee is $54 and is a one-time fee only — in addition to your annual registration fee. If you are a current ND plate holder and wish to keep your old plate design there is no action needed. However if you wish to transfer your number to the new plate, the Notre Dame Alumni Association must receive your request by September 30, 2008. This option is a one-time option, meaning all number transfer requests must come in the Alumni Association’s first batch of applications. After that, plate numbers will be issued in sequence. The ND Club of Pittsburgh's scholarship fund will receive $5 for each new plate sold to someone in our club’s geographic area (as determined by zip code). The Notre Dame Alumni Association will receive $25 to support service and academic programming. For more information and to download an application form please visit www.alumni.nd.edu/pennplate.
Q. My niece wants to come to Pittsburgh for Thanksgiving. Do you run a bus and if so, can she ride it?
A. Yes, our student bus is scheduled to run between Notre Dame/SMC and Pittsburgh for each of the 5 student breaks. All Notre Dame, Saint Marys and Holy Cross students are welcome to ride. Download a reservation form from this site.
Q. Does the Club sponsor bus trips to Notre Dame football games?
A. No, we don't.
Q. Are donations to the club tax deductable?
A. Yes. The Association of Notre Dame Clubs, Inc. has received an IRS Letter of Determination granting it Tax Exempt status as an organization described in Section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and in particular Section 509 (a)(3) and Section 170(b)(1)(a)(viii). The Notre Dame Club of Pittsburgh is a subordinate member club in The Association of Notre Dame Clubs, Inc. and is covered under the group exemption letter. Contributions to The Notre Dame Club of Pittsburgh are tax deductible by donors.
In addition, Alumni can earmark their annual donations to the University to be directed to the ND Club of Pittsburgh's scholarship fund. This is a great way to satisfy your University football lottery requirements and help local students at the same time. Just mark the subject line with "Notre Dame Club of Pittsburgh Scholarship Fund."
